Elanor McBay, Social Media Officer

I was widowed in 2005 whilst pregnant, but didn't find WAY until 2012.  My only regret is not finding this amazing and supportive charity sooner.  My partner was killed in a motorbike accident - we were both 33 at the time and I gave birth to our daughter 18 days later.

WAY has helped me find friends who understand and also more recently I've applied for and received backdated Widowed Parents Allowance after the law was changed to include unmarried widowed parents.  I am yet to remedy the 'blank space' on my daughter's birth certificate - but thanks to WAY and some fantastic members, this process is also being campaigned for now so it is made easier and more accessible.

After volunteering as an Area Contact for a few years I joined the WAY staff team as their Community Fundraiser.  I was in that role for 18 months before the contract ended and I am now back assisting with social media posts to help engage with members, non-members and organisations alike regarding all subjects around grief and the friendship and guidance WAY offers.
