Emma Charlesworth, WAY Ambassador

Emma joined WAY in June 2020, just under two months after being widowed at the age of 39 when her husband Stuart “Charlie” Charlesworth died of COVID-19 at the age of 45. She has one daughter, Rebekah.

Emma told us: “Like so many others who have lost a loved one throughout the pandemic, I have been navigating my way through the unpredictable grieving process and have battled the whole range of emotions that comes with it. Being widowed young can be an isolating experience. It is hard to find people who understand what it’s like, so joining WAY has helped me to connect with others who have been through this experience and who get it. The Friday night virtual quizzes with the Kent branch of WAY have been great fun and taught me a thing or two!

I am proud to be an Ambassador and to raise awareness of WAY to help others feel less alone. I am adamant that Charlie will always be more than just a number or a statistic – sharing our story in podcasts, documentaries, local and national media.”
