You may be eligible to claim bereavement benefits after your partner has died. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has a Bereavement Service Helpline that can take details of your partner’s death. The helpline will check if you can claim help with funeral costs or whether you are eligible for other benefits.
You can reach the Bereavement Service Helpline on 0345 0265 (or Welsh language 0345 606 0275).

Changes in bereavement support payments from April 2017
Please note that the DWP introduced significant changes to bereavement support payments on 6 April 2017. You can read about the new Bereavement Support Payments - which replaced Widowed Parent's Allowance and other previous bereavement payments for new claimants - here.
WAY has been campaigning against these changes alongside a coalition of charities led by the Childhood Bereavement Network. We are also now working together as part of a new Task Force with other prominent bereavement charities including Cruse and Winston's Wish to improve support for widowed parents & families going forward.
Please find out more about our campaign here - and join us in standing up for bereaved families.
The Department of Work and Pensions website provides information about the bereavement payments you may be entitled to.
