How You Can Support Someone
When someone is bereaved, it can often be hard to know what to say or do, which can lead them to feel even more isolated. You can't fix somebody's grief, but by just being there, it can mean the world.
Here are a few tips that you can use to help combat loneliness when somebody you know is grieving.
- Ask if they would like to come for dinner
- Just be there, even if it doing nothing
- Offer specific times and suggestions when you can support someone
- Offer practical support such as shopping, child care, doing some chores or walking the dog
- Keep checking in - even months and years later. A text or phone call can make a huge difference
- Talk about their loved ones and help celebrate the small things
