Christmas came early for one WAY member and four children last weekend.
Thanks to the organisation Single with Kids, Alan and four of his children (aged 3, 5, 10 and 15) were able to enjoy their first weekend away together since their Mum, Lyanda, died in June.
Alan and the children travelled seven hours from Carmarthenshire to Derbyshire to enjoy the much-needed break in the beautiful surroundings of Hargate Hall.
He told us: “The kids really loved it, and apart from a few moments (one major one when I burst into tears and went outside) I had a good time too. I enjoyed meeting everybody, all of them were welcoming and we became friends. Some of them learned of my situation and they were sympathetic without being patronising – a nice change to what I normally get. All of their kids were wonderful too. They even helped look after and played with my youngest, who’s three.”
“The children enjoyed the visit from Santa and loved their gifts too,” he said. “The personalised letters they received were wonderful and beautifully written – and it was a really nice touch putting something in there about Mummy too.”
“This was the first break away for us as the family we unfortunately are now,” said Alan. “Yes, it was difficult and yes, it was very emotional for me. But it was made easier to be part of a great group of people.”
“Thank you again from the bottom of my heart,” he added. “And a massive thank you from all of the kids.”
