Two groups of WAY members and their children got together this Father’s Day to support each other through a difficult weekend.
While 55 members and their children gathered for an activity weekend in Derbyshire, another 60 WAYers headed for the beach in Dorset. The fantastic weather helped to lift spirits while parents and children got to spend time with others who understand exactly what they’re going through.
As well as kayaking, karting and crafting, the highlight of the Derbyshire weekend was the release of biodegradable balloons on Sunday morning with messages written in memory of lost loved ones.
“Twelve months ago, I would never have imagined that this Fathers’ Day me and my children would be sending balloons into the sky with messages for Daddy,” said Jenny, a WAY member from Sheffield. “And last summer, as we struggled through the early days of our grief, I certainly couldn’t imagine that we’d be able to do this surrounded by others to share our tears, laughter and love. But this is what WAY has given us: the chance to be with others who know what we are going through; and what a difference it makes!”
