Landmark Opportunity: A weekend away
March 2023
Last month, some of our members had the fantastic opportunity to spend four days at a historic Landmark Trust property in Shropshire as part of the Trust’s 50 for Free initiative…
The White House belonged to the Stedmans, who had lived there from soon after 1300 in a nearly unbroken line. Half is timber-framed and medieval; half has the more considered dimensions of a small 18th-century house fit for a Jane Austen heroine. A perfect resting place for weary WAY members...
One of the attendees, WAY member and writer Cath, told us: “I wanted to put some time aside to work on short stories and poems, so used my time at the White House as a writing retreat."
"The location was the ideal place to edit and write new work, which focuses on the ongoing effect of bereavement and how I am establishing a new life for myself."
"The house with its historical artefacts, artwork and atmosphere, the stone floors and scenic views – and the beautiful countryside surroundings – provided me with not only inspiration but also the peace and space to concentrate fully.”
