Runaway fundraising for WAY

While many WAYers were busy munching on their picnic goodies over the Big Picnic weekend in May, more than a dozen members and supporters were pulling on their running shoes and braving the heat to raise funds for WAY.

A team of 16 runners from WAY and our charity partners JMW Solicitors took part in the Great Manchester Run on Sunday, 20 May. Between them, they raised nearly £6,000 for WAY in one weekend! Huge thanks to Manchester member Macaila Hannaford for coordinating the JMW team and to WAYer Jenny Nuttall for running 10K on the day.

Jenny ran in support of fellow members Gaynor Wood and Rupert Hannibal, who were unable to run after being hit by a hit and run driver while out training. Huge thanks to everyone who has shown their support for Rupert and Gaynor, who are both making a good recovery, in spite of horrific injuries. You can read their story in their local paper here

That same weekend WAY supporter Richard Rowling ran in the Hackney Half Marathon for WAY – and raised more than £1,000. While Vicki Small-Meadows also raised £1,000 in the Liverpool Rock n Roll Half Marathon in support of her widowed friend…

Enormous thanks to everyone who has helped WAY to raise funds over the past few weeks, whether by running, sharing our posts or donating. Every penny helps us to reach out to more members and to provide services like our 24-hour telephone helpline.
