A team of WAY supporters took part in a gruelling Tough Mudder Challenge on Saturday, 6 April in memory of a much-loved fiancé, father, friend and colleague.
The JB Warriors – otherwise known as ‘Jonny’s Angels’ – were supporting WAY member Cheri, whose fiancé Jonny was tragically killed in a car accident last May during his stag weekend in Spain. The three ladies have raised more than £2,600 between them.
Jonny’s colleagues at Build Recruitment also put forward a team who took part in the Tough Mudder alongside the JB Warriors, bringing the total raised to well over £3,000.
Cheri’s friend, Rosie (pictured on right), told us: “Never did we think we would have cause to do something as crazy as Tough Mudder but, after Cheri lost the wonderful Jonny so tragically last year, we all felt compelled to do… something. So the three of us swapped our usual heels and nice cocktail dinners for trainers and mud and took on a Tough Mudder. When we got there we did ponder why we hadn’t organised a bake sale instead but we are so proud that we did it!
We were joined by 10 people from Jonny’s workplace, Build Recruitment, including Chris, Ryan and Jack, who were incredibly close friends of Jonny’s and the teamwork and camaraderie made the day so much fun.
Jonny was an active man and had completed a similar thing in the past with friends so it felt a fitting way to help honour him. We all spoke of him as we completed the 5.5 miles and 10 obstacles and the love and heartache we all feel for him pushed us through the pain and the mud.
We’re so proud of the amount we’ve raised so far for WAY and we will keep going with more events this year, it gives Cheri a positive focus and to know the money will help others in a similar position feels good.”
