WAY Ambassador in #IRemember Week photo exhibition
November 2022
We are excited to reveal that WAY Widowed and Young Ambassador Maria Margetts is involved in a high-profile photography exhibition with photographer-to-the-stars Rankin as part of Dying Matters #IRemember Week (from 7-13 November).
Maria travelled down from Birmingham to be photographed by world-renowned photographer Rankin, who has captured the images of stars ranging from Madonna to Kate Moss.
“It was a brilliant morning,” says Maria. “We went to Rankin’s photo studio and got pampered. I had my hair done, which is something I’d never had done before. They had a cut out picture of my wife Mandy and I was looking over that for the photo Rankin took.”
Maria’s photo alongside her late wife Mandy is part of #IRemember Week, spearheaded by Hospices UK, which creates a space to share memories, to remember those we have lost and to break the taboo around grief and bereavement.
“I think their campaign is really important,” says Maria. “Basically it’s about keeping memories alive and talking about death. Talking about dying is such a taboo. The thing I liked about it is that it was part of a campaign that’s sparking a bigger conversation.”
“I remember Mandy every day,” she adds. “She’s all around me still. I have pictures of her all around and she gets brought up in conversations all the time. We were married for 25 years. Her memory will keep on going – she never goes away as much as grief diminishes. This is a way that I can show everybody who Mandy was – and say ‘this was my wife’.”
