Every year, WAY holds our Big Picnic weekend in the middle of May. It’s a chance for people who have been widowed young to get together with other bereaved families – and for non-members to find out how our charity works.
Last year, we had 36 picnics across the UK, from Scotland to the Isle of Wight and from Swansea to Norwich and Northern Ireland.
This year, we couldn’t meet up in person due to the coronavirus. But we decided to hold our Big Picnic at Home instead. And we had more than 80 virtual events across the country – from Aberdeen to Cornwall – with 700 friends, family and supporters joining in the online fun, which included competitions.
WAY’s CEO Rebecca Cooper said: “A sincere thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Big Picnic at Home. Despite not coming together in the usual way, it was heart-warming to see so many people across the UK rolling out their picnic blankets, decorating their homes in handmade bunting, enjoying home cooked foods and simply getting involved! The location may have been different, but the Friendship, Understanding & Support that WAY is renowned for shone throughout the whole weekend.”
