WAY Christmas tree in Worcester Cathedral
Worcester Cathedral hosts a hugely-popular Christmas Tree Festival each year in its stunning medieval cloisters, with local schools, charities, groups, and businesses providing themed Christmas trees highlighting their work within the community.
This year, Worcestershire WAY member Ruth Rowlands, helped by fellow members Sue Morris-King and Wendy Parker, have organised a tree on behalf of WAY, commemorating members’ lost spouses and partners.
Ruth decided to apply for a place in the festival after visiting in prior years, and felt a WAY-themed tree would be a beautiful way for members to share their love for their partners with other people, but more importantly to promote WAY.
Decorated with over fifty baubles and other ornaments containing photographs or mementos of their lost loved ones sent to Ruth by the members of Worcestershire WAY, WAYwocs, and Gloucestershire WAY, and further adorned with WAY logo pendants, swans, and lit in the blue and white WAY colours, the exquisite and unique tree will raise awareness of WAY within the wider community.
The tree is accompanied by WAY leaflets for people to take, and a small display explaining the aims of the charity. The tree will be seen by the thousands of visitors who attend the Christmas Tree Festival each December, and is a creative, moving, and informative memorial for WAY members and their families. Congratulations Ruth!
