We would like to say a huge thank you to Haycombe Crematorium in Bath for their generous donation of £8,000 to WAY.
Haycombe Cemetery & Crematorium Manager Garry Bowles and Crematorium Supervisor Sharon Rickerby handed over the cheque last week to WAY trustee Graham Briscoe and local WAY member Lisa Pritchard.
The Deputy Leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council Richard Samuel also attended the ceremony.
WAY trustee Graham Briscoe said: “We are incredibly grateful to Haycombe Crematorium for their generous donation of £8,000 to WAY Widowed and Young. This is a tremendous amount of money which will have a significant impact on our work, helping us raise awareness and provide a lifeline to young widows and widowers up and down the country. I would like to thank all involved for their support.”
The donation has been raised through a charitable scheme, operated by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM), of which Bath & North East Somerset Council is a member. Under the scheme metal from medical implants is recycled after cremation, with the consent of the family of the deceased. Twice a year the institute asks its scheme members to nominate local charities that help to support people to cope with the death of loved ones.
“We hope people who are bereaved take comfort from the fact that the money raised goes to support charities such as WAY Widowed and Young,” said Cemetery and Crematorium Manager Garry Bowles.
