WAY members on camera

Earlier this year, a film crew from the Smiley Movement spent a few hours with 60 WAY Widowed and Young members and their children at one of our family adventure weekends at PGL Caythorpe near Grantham.

As well as interviewing WAY’s Chief Executive Stephanie Patrick about WAY, they also spoke to two of our widowed members Sharon and Gary about how the charity has helped them.

Gary, who has been a member of our charity for five years since his wife died, took a few minutes out from archery and other adventures to talk about the support WAY had provided for him and his daughter Hannah.

“The support has been just brilliant,” he said. “It’s just being able to have a network of people who get it, people who understand the situation.”

Sharon agreed. “It’s a club nobody wants to be a part of,” she said. “WAY now is just my social circle, my social life. It doesn’t get easier, it gets more bearable – but with the support of others around you, there’s always someone to talk to.”

Sharon added: “If I hadn’t been a member, I don’t know if my grief journey would have been the same.”

Huge thanks to Harrison and Omar at Smiley Movement for making this short film and for helping to show how WAY is supporting young widowed people like Gary and Sharon across the UK.
