WAY's Chief Executive leaving to take up new role

We are very sad to announce that WAY’s Chief Executive Rebecca Cooper will be leaving our charity in May to take up a new post.

Rebecca came on board as WAY’s Chief Executive three years ago and leaves the charity in a much stronger position today after her tireless work with the Board of Trustees and small team of staff to increase our income and improve our services for all our members.

Over the past three years, WAY’s income has increased by around 40%. Rebecca has been able to secure funding from a variety of sources to support members and volunteers, whilst offering future sustainability for the charity and the opportunity for further development of services such as our website.

During that time, WAY has grown significantly – with almost 30% more members. We have also doubled the number of volunteers supporting the charity.

Awareness of WAY has also increased, and we have over 20,000 followers across our social media platforms. Working closely with the Board, Rebecca has improved standards and compliance and has set out the Strategic Plan for the next five years, which will create firm foundations for the charity moving forward. 

“This decision to leave WAY has certainly has not been easy,” said Rebecca. “However, 2020 offered a time for reflection, with two personal bereavements, this has reiterated my desire to work closer to home. Whilst I am looking forward to a new opportunity, I am also incredibly sad to be leaving WAY, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the charity and will miss the people most of all.

“It has been a privilege working with you, to provide those widowed young somewhere to turn when their partner dies,” she added. “I am honoured to have been your Chief Executive, and I wish WAY and my successor all the best for the future.”
