Housebuilder’s donation to WAY in Somerset will help rebuild lives after bereavement

July 2026

WAY has received a generous £1,500 donation from housebuilder David Wilson Redrow South West to help the charity build support for young widowed people across Somerset.

The donation forms part of David Wilson Redrow South West’s ongoing commitment to supporting charities and community organisations that are making a positive difference across the region. WAY was nominated by an employee who had personally benefited from the charity’s support.

Louise Ware, Sales Director at David Wilson Redrow South West, said: “We’re proud to support the important work carried out by WAY Widowed and Young. Losing a partner at any age is incredibly difficult, and the charity provides a vital source of comfort, understanding and practical support for people navigating bereavement.

“We hope this donation will help WAY continue reaching those who need its services most and ensure more young widowed people know they aren’t facing their loss alone.”

The funding will help WAY – the UK’s only national charity dedicated to supporting people aged 50 or under after the death of their partner – continue providing vital peer-to-peer support and bereavement services to its members based in Somerset.

WAY’s Chief Executive Stephanie Patrick said: “WAY relies upon donations from our members and the generosity of supporters to help us provide a lifeline to young widowed people across the country, including in Somerset.

“We’re the only UK charity providing peer-to-peer support specifically for people who’ve been widowed at a young age. The generous support from David Wilson Redrow South West will help us continue offering essential services for our members, including access to our secure online community and confidential bereavement support line.

“It will also help us reach newly bereaved widows and widowers who may benefit from WAY’s support through outreach work with GP surgeries, hospitals and funeral directors, as well as through our media and awareness campaigns.”

We encourage WAY members and supporters to talk to their employers, HR departments, groups and networks they may be involved with to find out if they have any opportunities to support WAY – from match funding to charity of the year nominations.
