Ten-year tribute inspires year of giving
October 2025
On 6 October 2016, Lindsay’s world changed forever when her husband, Phil, died at the age of just 43. He had spent eight days in a coma at Wythenshawe Hospital’s Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit after suffering a heart attack and cardiac arrest.
Now, ten years on, Lindsay is channelling her loss into hope – raising funds for four charities that made a difference to her family’s life and continue to support others in similar situations.
“With 2026 being the 10-year anniversary, to show our appreciation for the incredible support we have received, myself and my two sons have decided to raise funds for four fantastic charities – Wythenshawe Hospital’s Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit, North West Ambulance Service, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and WAY Widowed and Young,” Lindsay said.
She added:
“A couple of weeks after Phil died, a non-widowed friend signposted me to WAY, having come across the website via a Facebook post. The charity was a lifeline in what felt like an incredibly isolating time. Connecting with people who just ‘get it’ made all the difference, and through WAY I’ve formed lifelong friendships. I hope our fundraising efforts help sustain this vital network and offer others the same hope and support I received, especially in those early days.”
A year of challenges
The first fundraising event took place on Sunday, 5 October 2025, when a group of 11 supporters completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – a gruelling 25-mile circular hike in the Yorkshire Dales covering the summits of Whernside, Ingleborough, and Pen-y-Ghent. After 42km and 60,000 steps, the team crossed the finish line in under 12 hours!
Over the next 12 months, Lindsay and her supporters plan to raise £5,000 through a series of exciting fundraising challenges – including a marathon, Great North Swim and National Three Peaks Challenge – before marking the 10-year anniversary with a black-tie charity dinner in October 2026.
Just a few weeks into their year of challenges, they have already raised more than £2,600!
