Walking for Jonathan: Cassie’s Kiltwalk for WAY

April 2026

On 25-26 April, Scottish WAY member Cassie is taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk – walking more than 14 miles to raise funds in memory of her husband, Jonathan. She has already raised more than £1,200 to help support other young widowed people across the UK. Here’s her story…

“Since the devastating loss of my husband, Jonathan, in August 2022 at just 37 years old, my world changed in an instant. I was widowed at 38, left to navigate overwhelming grief while caring for our two young children – Piper, aged 5, and baby Summer, just 4 months old. In an instant, I lost my partner and the girls lost their dad.

In those darkest moments, the support I found through WAY Widowed and Young became a lifeline, offering both practical help and a compassionate community of people who truly understand the heartbreak of losing a partner far too soon. Through them, I have found comfort, connection and lifelong friends who continue to support me every day. Their kindness has helped me begin to rebuild our lives while keeping Jonathan’s memory at the heart of everything we do.

Jonathan was the best husband to me and an amazing daddy to the girls – we love and miss him everyday. That is why I am now raising funds for WAY by taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk, to give back to the charity that has supported me so deeply. I’m taking on the challenge in Jonathan’s memory – knowing that nothing will ever take away the pain of losing him, but hoping to honour his life and raise funds so WAY can continue supporting families facing unimaginable loss.

Any support, big or small, means so much. Thank you for helping to ensure nobody who’s been widowed young has to face this journey alone.”

If you’ve ever thought about taking part in something like the Kiltwalks in Scotland, this is your chance. We have opportunities in Glasgow (25-26 April), Aberdeen (7 June), Dundee (16 August) and Edinburgh (13 September) this year. Walk for someone you love, walk for those who need support and be part of something that truly makes a difference to young widowed people across the UK.
