“My wife sadly and unexpectedly passed away in April 2020, shortly after the first lockdown began. I was alone with a very young son and isolated. The funeral was very small and capped at 15 people, including the officiators. The first few hours, days, weeks and months are a blur of shock and sadness. All I remember is the intense pain and inability to consider a future without my wife. Through lockdown I turned to the internet for support. I found WAY and, although I was not able to meet anyone in person at the time, I was able to find some comfort knowing that others were in a similar situation, experiencing similar challenges and similar pain.
As a WAY Trustee, I want to do my best to support others going through young widowhood. Everyone’s experience is different but knowing that we’re not alone is extremely powerful. Relating to others, including close family and friends, who are not widowed nor young, can be extremely difficult. However, WAY provides us with a supportive community through online chat, coffee meetups, drinks, events, Facebook groups and more.
Please reach out and let us know how we can continue to improve what WAY has to offer.”
