100 WAY members celebrate WAY's 25th anniversary in Glasgow

September 2022

More than 100 WAY members headed to Glasgow this month to take part in the charity’s first face to face AGM since 2019.

WAY’s 25th anniversary AGM included inspirational speakers (WAY member Elke Thompson and comedian Siobhan Roxburgh from the Comedy Trust) and workshop sessions ranging from wine tasting to seated mindfulness or Ceilidh dancing.

As well as appointing WAY’s founder Caroline Sarll as our new Founder Patron, we were also pleased to unveil the winners of our two annual awards:

  • Suzanne Elvidge won this year’s Helen Bailey Award for her blog https://www.thewidowshandbook.com
  • and Area Contact for Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Becky Pope has won this year’s Mandy Burrows Award for a member who has gone over and beyond the call of duty for WAY.

The daytime session closed with a stunning performance by WAY member Rebecca Newman of her new single Per Sempre, which is raising funds for WAY. Find out how you can support Rebecca here

And the celebrations were rounded off with a dinner dance in the evening and into the wee hours, with a photo booth and lots of impressive dance moves on display!

WAY member Trudy told us: “It’s been my first AGM, but definitely won't be the last. It’s been such a fantastic opportunity to meet people face to face who I’ve only known virtually. Big thanks to all the team who worked so hard in bringing us together for the weekend.
