Celebrating World Photography Day with WAY

To mark World Photography Day on 19 August, WAY invited members to take part in a light-hearted summer photo competition around the theme: WAY Merchandise – Out and About This Summer.

From strolls in local parks to seaside adventures, dog walks or trips abroad, members were encouraged to share snapshots of their WAY T-shirts, hoodies, pens, badges, keyrings or tote bags in action.

Entries came in from near and far – from the spectacular Niagara Falls, straddling the US-Canada border, to the colourful Bristol Balloon Fiesta and Download Festival in Leicestershire.

But the winning entry came from WAY member Nikki, who submitted a poignant photograph of herself wearing her WAY T-shirt in Greece – where she had returned for the first time since her husband died.

“I lost my husband suddenly in July 2023 whilst on holiday in Kefalonia and I became a member of WAY soon after,” Nikki told us. “When I joined WAY, I instantly felt like I had support behind me, that I was understood and I wasn’t alone. So it felt fitting to return to Greece with the support of WAY behind me.”

“WAY has helped me so much on my grief journey and I now feel empowered to help others who are at the very start of their journey,” she added. “We can all make a difference – whether it be by fundraising, wearing merchandise or promoting the group through word of mouth. Hopefully the message will reach someone who really needs to hear it – ‘You are not alone and we're all in this together’.”

Congratulations to Nikki and thank you to everyone who took part – your photos showed just how far WAY’s message of support, friendship and understanding can travel.

Nikki won a voucher of £25 to spend in WAY’s online shop.
