Fantastic fundraisers in May
May 2023
Our members are between them clocking up hundreds of miles in preparation for their walking and cycling challenges to raise funds for WAY this month – so please do show your generous support.
Marathon effort
Chantal
WAY’s newest fundraising volunteer Chantal ran over 26 miles this month in the Marathon de la Loire on the anniversary of her husband’s death. She has raised over £1,200 for WAY and if you'd like to support her too there is still time here. Thanks Chantal!
London2Brighton walk
On 27 May, a small team of WAY members are due to set off on a 100km walk from Richmond Park in London to Brighton. Ben and Karli are fundraising for WAY alongside fellow member Claire. We wish them all well for the walk and hope they get good weather and enjoy their day.
RideLondon cycle challenge
The very next day, WAY member Carol and her team of intrepid cyclists will be taking on the RideLondon 100-mile ride through the streets of London and Essex.
With just a week to go, Carol and her friends have raised more than £2,000 for WAY. Please help them to smash their £3,000 target and help to support other young widowed people across the UK. Read Carol’s story.
Walking for WAY
Kate and friends
WAY member Kate and four friends have completed a 50km walk for her 50th birthday this month. They have raised over £2,800, a third of which is going to WAY. Thank you so much for your wonderful efforts and fantastic support Kate.
It’s not too late to show your support here.
Walk this May
We’re still going strong with our Walk this May fundraising challenge and it’s not too late to join in and do something in the last few days of the month. WAY member Anne has been increasing her distances slowly as she builds up her total to 25km over the month – she has raised £195 so far!
Take on an ultra challenge
If you fancy taking on a fundraising challenge, there’s still time this year! The South Coast challenge or the Thames Path Challenge are far enough away to give plenty of time for training. Please get in touch if you’re interested in more details; there are different length challenges – you don’t have to start with 100km!!
Get muddy for WAY
We have been given a special discount code this year from Tough Mudder to anyone raising funds for WAY – member or not. And if anyone can get a team together to do one of these fun events, there are a couple of free places up for grabs too – first come, first served!
Please do get in touch with Elanor on fundraising@widowedandyoung.org.uk if you have any weird and wacky fundraising ideas – or are taking part in something that you’d like to make into a fundraiser for WAY. Thank you so much!
