Raising funds and spirits: A charity quiz night for WAY

March 2026

Following a successful WAY Christmas meal at a local pub in Bedfordshire, WAY member Louise was inspired to find another way to bring members together in the same welcoming setting at the George in Maulden.

Having enjoyed the pub’s lively monthly quiz nights before - and knowing that each one supports a chosen charity - Louise reached out to see if WAY might be considered. Thanks to the kindness of Gemma, The George’s lovely host, the answer was a resounding yes.

Louise set up a WAY event and gathered a team for the evening. What followed was exactly what WAY is all about: connection, laughter and support.

“We had a great evening of fun, giggles and laughs,” says Louise. “We definitely don’t go to quizzes to compete to win. It’s about getting together and having fun night out.”

Some members arrived early to enjoy the pub’s tasty food before the quiz began, and by the time the quiz was underway, the atmosphere was buzzing. With more than 19 teams taking part, Gemma did a fantastic job hosting and took the time to highlight WAY as the charity of the evening, sharing a little about the support our charity offers to young people across the UK.

“Our team - Ricky, Lisa, Jamila, Anna and me - came mid table, probably our highest ever result!” says Louise. “But more importantly we had a lovely evening, chatted, laughed and supported each other.”

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the evening wasn’t just about laughter and friendship - it also raised £277.50 for WAY. This included £222 from quiz entry fees, topped up by a generous 25% donation from Brakspear, the pub’s parent company.

A huge thank you goes to Gemma and everyone at The George for supporting WAY and helping to create such a memorable evening. Events like these are a wonderful reminder of how local initiatives can make a big difference!
