Scaling Snowdon for WAY
July 2023
Earlier this month, 18 colleagues from the Walsall-based company Mainstay Recruitment took on an epic Snowdon challenge to raise funds and awareness for WAY Widowed and Young and Birmingham Mind.
It’s an impressive feat to get to the top of Mount Snowdon at all, particularly in challenging weather conditions. Standing more than 1,000 metres tall, Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales. On a good day, the summit offers breathtaking views across North Wales.
The weather was very wet when the first colleagues from Team Mainstay set off ready to conquer three consecutive climbs of Snowdon in one day, with the remaining teams attempting one and two climbs, following closely behind.
Everyone worked hard to keep each other motivated, as they needed to keep a steady pace in driving rain. With donations still coming in, everyone worked together to make it to the top, no matter how much they wanted to turn back! In the end, all 18 members of the team scaled Snowdon at least once.
After 14 hours of gruelling climbing covering nearly 30 miles, two colleagues – Director Nick Jones and Senior Branch Manager Andy Woodvine (pictured here)– made it to the summit for the third time!
Andy said: “I am immensely proud that I completed the challenge. Over recent years I have lost three friends too soon and it was their memory that kept me going when it got really tough. I did it for them but also with the goal of raising awareness of our great charities and the work Mainstay does for them.”
Through their epic efforts, Team Mainstay managed to smash their original fundraising target to raise an incredible £6,500, which will be split between WAY and Birmingham Mind.
Congratulations to Team Mainstay and thank you so much for all your support for WAY! Through a series of challenges - including a skydive - Team Mainstay have raised more than £5,000 for WAY over the past year, which will help us to support more young widowed people across the UK.
