Stephanie’s story: Cotswold ultra challenge raises funds for WAY

July 2025

Last month, one of our fabulous supporters Stephanie – Business Development Manager at the Chilterns and Bierton Crematoria – completed a 53km hiking challenge through the Cotswolds in blazing sunshine to raise funds for WAY.

“It’s safe to say it was one of the most challenging things I’ve done, but also one of the most uplifting,” she told us.

The route followed a section of the Cotswold Way, starting in Cirencester and finishing in Wotton-Under-Edge, with a total climb of 1,600 metres over more than 13 hours.

“Unfortunately, my walking buddy had to pull out at the halfway point due to an injury,” said Stephanie. “It was disappointing, but she stayed with our kids for the rest of the route and met me at every stop with cheers, snacks and smiles. My daughter Hannah and her best friend were part of the ‘support team’. They made signs, ran to greet me at checkpoints, and made sure I took proper breaks. Their support meant the world to me and gave me a real boost throughout the day.”

Stephanie’s challenge has raised nearly £600 for WAY, which is also the chosen charity of the Chilterns and Bierton Crematoria this year.

“It’s been a while since I’ve done an ultra-hike, and this felt like the right time to push myself again,” she explained. “And to raise awareness and funds for a small charity doing incredibly important work.”

Thank you to everyone who supported Stephanie’s challenge – and to everyone who donated to WAY along the way.
