WAY runners helped each other over the line at the London Landmarks Half Marathon

April 2026

Six WAY runners came together for the London Landmarks Half Marathon on a sunny Sunday morning earlier this month and collectively raised more than £6,000  for our charity – racing past iconic London landmarks including Big Ben, the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London.

Many of the runners hadn’t met in person before the event, but as one WAY member put it, “we all got on like we’d known each other for ages”.

Julia summed up the day from a runner’s perspective: “It was so lovely to meet strangers (who aren’t strangers as WAY members)… We all completed it, got rained on twice and got the medals.”

One of the runners, Kyer, was the daughter of WAY member Kelly, and single-handedly raised more than £2,300: “Words cannot express how immensely proud I am,” said Kelly, who thanked the other WAY runners for helping her daughter to keep running when the going got tough.

Cheered on by WAY’s Membership Officer Tanya, between them the WAY runners clocked up more than 78 miles.

“We really got each other round at the end,” said Paul. “The chance to raise money for WAY has given me new motivation to start training again while supporting a charity that has helped me through my bereavement. WAY has connected me with others who understand my situation, as well as providing practical support and helplines where needed. I’m planning to run several half marathons this year to continue fundraising.”

Not deterred by the gruelling mileage, Vicki is also taking on a triple challenge this month – running the Manchester marathon on 19 April and an ultra-marathon event in Coventry on 26 April.

Keep on running

WAY has a subgroup for runners, which Vicki helps to coordinate.

“If you’re a runner, thinking about starting running or anything in between head over to our WAY Running group, if you haven’t already,” she said. “We have plans for other meet ups in the pipeline so do please come join us.”
