Suzanne, Diversity Working Group Volunteer

Tim died suddenly and unexpectedly in 2018, in the early hours of a Saturday morning. An old friend of mine told me about WAY – a friend of hers was a member – and I found my people and my support groups, first with WAYWOCs (the group for widows without children) and then with the LGBTQ+ group.
I had known I was bisexual/pansexual for many years, but hadn’t really been ‘out’. The LGBTQ+ group provided me with a safe place to come out, and gave me so much support when I entered into a relationship with a woman (now my wife). I volunteer as a member of the LGBTQ+ diversity working group. It’s a way of giving back to people who have done so much for me, and also a way to grow a safe space for others, both those who are out, and for those who aren’t yet but want a safe space to be who they are.
