WAY's Summer Superstars
July 2023
Thank you to all of our incredible fundraisers who are taking on challenges for WAY - you make the support we offer to members possible.
Taking to the water

Two teams of intrepid WAY members – joined by another team of enthusiastic supporters from the law firm Irwin Mitchell – went head to head at the Kingston Upon Thames Dragon Boat Race earlier this month to help support young widows and widowers across the UK.
Together the teams raised more than £5,000 for WAY, as well as having a fun day out with 40 other WAY members, friends, family and supporters.
If you’d like to find out about taking part in next year’s Dragon Boat Race, please drop our Community Fundraiser Elanor McBay an email at fundraising@widowedandyoung.org.uk
Climbing mountains

A team of 18 superstar supporters from Mainstay Recruitment also took on an epic challenge for WAY this month – climbing Snowdon in North Wales to raise funds for WAY and Birmingham Mind.
They raised an incredible £6,500, which will be split between the two charities. Huge thanks to everyone at Mainstay for their fantastic staying power when it came to conquering one of Britain’s highest mountains!
Setting the pace

Wonderful WAY supporter Matt is taking on a monster challenge for WAY aiming to complete seven marathons in seven days! He's already raised more than £1,300.
When completed, he will have clocked up an impressive 180+ miles.
We'll be sharing more about his challenge soon.
Please show him your support if you can.
One of our members’ sons Daniel, 16, is also running an astonishing 200km for WAY in July and has so far raised nearly £300.
Try something different this Summer
If you’ve been inspired by our fabulous fundraisers, we’d love you all to get involved in our Summer Challenge, which can be a challenge of your own design: something to really stretch your stamina or skills, to show off your baking prowess, to wash the most cars or sell the most jumble! Walking backwards, wearing silly hats and even head shaving – anything goes (within safety limitations, of course!).

WAY relies on donations and membership fees to make sure our work can continue. We know this has been a tough year for so many of our members due to the cost-of-living crisis – but if everyone could just do a small thing, it really would all add up and help raise vital funds so that we can support more young widowed people across the UK.
The Summer Challenge will run from now until the end of August so please choose something that fits within that time – it can be one event, something you do over a week or over the whole summer. Get friends and family involved too. The more the merrier!
Please email fundraising@widowedandyoung.org.uk with your ideas and details – or for tips and advice.
We can’t wait to hear what you will all be doing!

Please remember there are many easy ways to support WAY that won’t cost you much and won’t take much time. For example, you could sign up to Easyfundraising or Give as you Live and do your shopping though the apps. The shops give a small percentage of your spend to the charity of your choice, which will be us of course.

And remember we also have a WAY lottery too!
