Reflecting on WAY holidays in 2025

January 2026

During 2025, there were multiple holidays for WAY members and their children to take a few days away together and enjoy the peer-to-peer support that WAY offers our members.

The opportunity for WAY members to spend a few days away from their often hectic lives is a big part of many members’ grief journeys. Our offer has increased over the years, with the introduction of a Summer break in the Derbyshire Dales in 2025.

The opportunity to relax, surrounded by people who ‘just get it’, is an invaluable support to grieving people who are struggling to find their new normal. With some of the WAY breaks also involving members’ children, friendships are formed between members and between their children too. Many members return year after year to share more adventures and make more memories.

PGL Adventure Weekend

2025 started off with the annual trip to PGL Grantham, which has now been running since January 2018 with WAY members a firm fixture at their opening weekend of the year. WAY Member Emma, who was attending her third PGL weekend with her daughter Poppy, explains the experience of the trip in more detail.

Dovedale Summer Retreat

Summer 2025 saw our first ever trip to Ilam, Derbyshire. A small group spent a few days relaxing in the calm, safe surroundings of Dovedale House, enjoying home-cooked meals and connecting with each other.

WAY member Mark commented:

“It was a huge privilege and pleasure to spend time in this calm and beautiful residential setting with fellow members in differing personal situations.”

AGM Weekend

As usual, the WAY AGM took place in Autumn and 2025 saw Bournemouth as the host city, which did not disappoint. From the opportunity to hear about the charity, to dressing up for the Dinner and Dance to a refreshing beach walk, the weekend created many memories for all attendees. One attendee told us:

“I enjoyed being equal to everyone else in the room and able to just have fun and enjoy it all.”

“I have been running holidays for WAY since 2016 and still love to see new members attend and make friends. Whether you throw yourself into every opportunity a weekend can bring, or relax and chat over a coffee, the memories will stay with you and become part of your tool kit in finding your new normal.”
